Little Big Butterfly started its life in 2010 by Clara Shield. Having worked for a number of years within the field of Youth and Community Arts, Clara took a leap of faith and created a company and brand that specialised in creating high quality creative projects and activities for Children, Young People and Adults based on the principles of Youth Work Practice. All of our projects and opportunities that are offered through Little Big Butterfly are participatory, educational, empowering and promote the equality of opportunity.

The inspiration behind the projects and training have come from a wealth of experiences from all of our team and associate artists working not only in the North East but wider UK and abroad. We pride ourselves in offering Children and Young People film, music and creative drama experiences that are delivered by by professionals working alongside counselors.

It is important to us that excellent facilitation is adopted and modeled throughout our projects and beyond. Our training that we offer is aimed at both individuals and professionals, seeking to improve their skills and knowledge to enable all participants to excel in their personal development and professional practice.

Little Big Butterfly have delivered creative storytelling and crafts activities on three occasions for our Vamos Music Festival events; at the Toffee Factory, ¡VAMOS! Social and our popular Vamos Family Picnic. All events were very well attended, professionally delivered and hugely popular with the families. I couldn't recommend the Butterfly team more!

The 'Using Film and Media with Community Groups' training we had from Clara was outstanding. Delivered at the right pace and level for a very mixed group. The training was broken down really well into understandable and easy to use information. The whole group really enjoyed the training and Clara has an excellent manner when training and makes it fun and inspiring

Having worked with Little Big Butterfly a few times I would certainly recommend them. Little Big Butterfly’s work is collaborative, inventive and forward thinking. But for me what really makes Little Big Butterfly stand out is the balanced combination of Clara Shield’s professionalism and ethics.

Clara worked with the young people in a wonderfully creative and supportive way and by genuinely involving the young people in the making of the film and its direction, they were able to voice their honest views and give local authorities a deeper understanding of what is needed to improve the lives of young people with additional needs
