Young Women's Film Academy launches exciting new project!

Young women to film their stories of courage!
Newcastle-based company, Little Big Butterfly, has launched a project to support teenage girls in Tyneside get ahead in the film industry.
The “Young Women with Courage” project, which is funded by the Big Lottery, will see 12 girls, from ages 13 to 19, work with a team of all-female professionals to make films about their lives.
The project aims to help them build skills in film making, learning from women industry professionals and explore issues pertinent to the girls’ lives, so they can share their stories and empower other girls and young women in similar situations.
Young Women with Courage, which is the fourth successful project run through Little Big Butterfly’s Young Women’s Film Academy, is supported by north east actor Charlie Hardwick.
Charlie, who is also the director for the project, said: “I am absolutely thrilled about my involvement with this young women's film project. I have spent the last 12 years in front of a camera and it will be a great opportunity to put that experience into practice.
“I have been involved with the young women's film academy since its inception, and I wholeheartedly support it. I think it's vital that those who don't normally have a voice are heard. Film is a brilliant way to let that voice resound. I can't wait.”
This project will be teaming up with the Young Women’s Outreach Project based in Gateshead that supports girls and young women.
Clara Shield, director for Little Big Butterfly, said: “I am really excited to be able to offer local young women this amazing opportunity. Our previous projects have been a great success with participants moving onto careers and training in the media and film industry or performing arts.
“It’s so important that young women are given this chance to learn new skills and recognise that the creative industries can be a career option, the creative team we have for this project are all local women that are incredibly talented and are a great role model and inspiration for the participants’.
