Clara Shield

Creative Producer, Director

I set up Little Big Butterfly in 2010, after having worked throughout the region for over 10 years within both the statutory and voluntary sector as a qualified youth worker, drama/film facilitator and Policy Development Officer for Children’s Services. It was important to me to follow my heart and my passion for enabling children, young people and vulnerable adults to engage in participatory arts based activities that are issue based, highly creative and foster compassion and empathy.
Previously, I studied a BA in Theatre Studies prior to qualifying as a Youth and Community Arts Worker (PG.Dip) and then went on to complete an MA in Gender, Culture and Development. Within my current role I am lead drama facilitator, projects producer and I also make film specialising in young people with special needs and disabilities in addition to oral history recording. I have recently been awarded my Practitioner Certificate in Mindfulness which I use in the training that Little Big Butterfly can offer in addition to our core work.
I live in Northumberland with my young son, where I am also a Parish Councillor. I enjoy camping, music, travelling and I am passionate about supporting women’s projects throughout the region.
